Arkansas Hires Chad Morris; Holgorsen Reported As Finalist; Rumors Still Flying

The University of Arkansas announced this morning they have hired SMU head coach Chad Morris. However, reports have been published that although Morris was the frontrunner for the position that Washington State head coach Mike Leach and WVU’s Dana Holgorsen were in the final three.

A finalist, huh?

Regardless, the fears of losing Holgorsen to Arkansas are now a moot point.

However, has anyone really taken notice that Holgorsen’s name seems to be associated with more coaching searches than seemingly any other Power 5 Conference coach?

Let it be known these “rumors” are normally not started within WVU circles. It never starts with “someone close to Holgorsen” or “sources tell us Holgorsen has been contacted”. Yet his name is regularly associated in some way or another.

Bruce Feldman of Fox Sports expected Holgorsen to get a call from Arizona State before they ultimately hired Herm Edwards.

Now with Oregon losing Willie Taggart to FSU there are rumors on social media asking about the validity of Holgorsen to Oregon?

Why does Holgorsen’s name continually come up as a “potential fit”for so many vacancies?

Is it perceived that Holgorsen is destined for bigger and better? Which, for the record, I take offense to.

Is it known within coaching circles that Holgorsen is “always looking”? For the sake of WVU’s perception, I hope this is not the case.

Maybe it is much more simple than many realize. Maybe Holgorsen is a hot commodity within the NCAA coaching ranks. Maybe it is simply Holgorsen likes where he is, and that is something WVU fans should take comfort in, whether you are a Holgorsen fan or not.

For the record, I would highly doubt Holgorsen’s name would come up for the SMU position. I would have to believe that position would be filled by an up-and-coming assistant coach. But rest assured someone will tie him there somehow, it never fails.
