If you have been keeping close tabs on the recruiting front the last two weeks or so, you will see that West Virginia has been hitting the state of North Carolina hard. They added a couple more offers to offensive lineman Ikem Ekwonu and linebacker Osi Ekwonu of Providence Day School in Charlotte.
Ikem (6’4″ 290 lbs) is a versatile lineman and can virtually play anywhere up front. He has the ability to play on the defensive line as well, but projects to be a offensive lineman at the next level.
Ikem’s offers include Appalachian St, Tennessee, West Virginia and a few others.
“West Virginia is a place I’m interested in. I like the trajectory of the program and I like the fact that they’re competitive in the Big 12 every year,” Ikem said. “Coach Spavital is the one who offered/recruited me, and I’d say our bond is pretty strong. He just told me some days I could get on campus so I’m pretty excited about that.”
As for his brother, Osi, he holds offers from a slew of schools including Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State, Tennessee, Louisville, Michigan, Wake Forest, West Virginia and many others.
“It was amazing because it gave me an opportunity to play at the same school as my brother.” Osi said about learning of his West Virginia offer.
Osi is a 6’2″ 220 pound inside linebacker that could be an asset to any power 5 program as a true freshman. His ability to flock to the ball and hit the gaps really jump off the screen.
It may be a tough task for the coaching staff to reel in these two brothers, but I wouldn’t completely rule it out.
