Only days after the most bizarre series of events to ever surround a coaching hire, Tennessee has moved on to the next coach on their wish list.
While most figured former Volunteer and current offensive coordinator at USC, Tee Martin, would be the clear choice to take the reigns at Tennessee a new name has surfaced and it seems as though things are happening quickly.
Oklahoma State’s Mike Gundy has reportedly become a top candidate to replace Butch Jones and Greg Schiano who was HC for about an hour.
There are reports out of Knoxville that Gundy has already informed school officials that he would be meeting with UT, as required by his contract. That meeting will be taking place today in Dallas.
Gundy, best known for his mullet and “I’m a man ” speech, arrived at Oklahoma State in 2005 and has seem much success over his 12 seasons at the helm including five seasons with at least 10 regular season wins.
What is interesting is that Gundy signed a five year extension with the Cowboys this past summer raising his annual salary to $4.2 million with a $125,000 increase each following year.
Current WVU head coach Dana Holgorsen came to WVU after being under Gundy for one season as his offensive coordinator at Oklahoma State.
