It was announced today that WVU Quarterback Will Grier was named the Big 12 Conference’s “Newcomer of the Year.”
Grier was named the conference newcomer of the week 5 times this season. In Grier’s 10 starts, he completed 64.4 percent of his passes for 3490 yards, 34 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. Grier’s 34 passing touchdowns is second all time in WVU history behind only Geno Smith who threw 42 touchdowns in the 2012 season.
We will have to wait and see if an award like this has any impact of Grier staying in Morgantown for his senior season. If Grier came back and was able to put up similar numbers next season, he would most likely sit behind only Geno Smith for the career Mountaineer passing touchdown record. Second place right now is Skyler Howard with 60.
