Greg Jones can finally understand the saying “records are mean to be broken.” In Jone’s case, someone stole his 34 year old record. Jevon Carter now has his name in the records books at WVU surpassing Jones record of 251 career steals.
Carter recorded his third steal against NJIT late in the first half to break the record. The WVU senior currently leads the nation in total steals and steals per game.
Jones, who played for the Mountaineers from 1980-1983, was inducted into the WVU Sports Hall of Fame in 1999. He was selected by the Indiana Pacers in the third round of the 1984 NBA draft.
Undersized, heavily doubted, Jevon Carter has proven year in and year out that defensively he is the best in the Big 12. Tonight proves no different for Carter, and when’s it all said and done his presence will be forever engraved in the Mountaineers record books!
