No. 7 WVU comes from behind to beat Oklahoma State in Big 12 opener

STILLWATER, Okla.–Teddy Allen scored 15 points as No. 7 West Virginia rallied to beat Oklahoma State 85-79 on Friday night in the Big 12 opener for both teams.

Sagaba Konate had 13 points and nine boards. Daxter Miles Jr. and Jevon Carter both added 12 points. Lamont West tallied 11 points and Beetle Bolden added 10 for the Mountaineers (12-1, 1-0).

Tavarius Shine and Jeffrey Carroll both scored 17 points for the Cowboys (10-3, 0-1). Lindy Waters III added 13.

WVU trailed 50-43 with 17:01 left but Allen caught fire, scoring 13 of his team-high points over the final 20 minutes.

With 10:25 remaining, Miles gave the Mountaineers their first lead since early in the first half, sinking two free throws.

Oklahoma State failed to score for over four minutes but the Cowboys refused to go away. Brandon Averette finished a three-point play with 33 seconds left in the game to cut WVU’s lead to 81-79.

But Bolden made two clutch foul shots to seal the victory

The Mountaineers had a 35-32 advantage on the glass.

WVU forced 21 turnovers. However, the Mountaineers committed 18 turnovers. The two teams combined for 22 steals.

WVU shot 43.9 percent from the floor, 36.4 percent from beyond the arc and made 27-of-32 from the charity stripe.

Oklahoma State shot 51.1 percent from the field, 35.3 percent from 3-point range and 69.4 percent from the free throw line.

The Mountaineers won their 12th straight.

WVU remains on the road to travel to Manhattan, Kansas to square off against Kansas State on Monday.
