WVU baseball earns preseason Top 25 ranking

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University baseball team will enter the 2018 season in the top 25, as it is ranked No. 22 in the 2018 D1Baseball Preseason Top 25.

WVU is one of four Big 12 teams ranked in the top 25. Texas Tech comes in at No. 3, while TCU is No. 7. Texas is No. 21, followed by the No. 22-ranked Mountaineers.

Coming off the program’s first NCAA Tournament appearance in 21 years in 2017, West Virginia also received votes in the Collegiate Baseball Preseason Poll and the Perfect Game Preseason Top 25.

Last year, the Mountaineers entered the national rankings for the first time since 1982 and were ranked nationally in five of the six major polls for the first time in program history. West Virginia was ranked as high as No. 21 by Baseball America and D1Baseball on April 17.

In the 2017 final national rankings, WVU received votes in both the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Top 25 and the Coaches Poll.

The season unofficially begins with the sixth annual WVU Baseball Leadoff Dinner, presented by Lumos Networks, on Friday, Feb. 2, 2018.
