LAWRENCE, Kan.–Daxter Miles Jr. scored 22 points but No. 20 West Virginia blew a double-digit lead and fell to No. 13 Kansas 77-69 on Saturday night.
The Mountaineers (19-8, 8-6 Big 12) and Jayhawks (20-7, 10-4) remained locked in a close contest through the first half and were tied 34-34 at halftime.
However, WVU took the lead on a 3 from Miles with 17:22 remaining and held onto the lead for most of the second half. Kansas tied the game at 66 with 2:13 left and Svi Mykhailiuk hit a pair of free throws to give the Jayhawks the lead with 1:40 to go.
Frustration began setting in for Bob Huggins and the Mountaineers. The head coach was charged with two technicals before being tossed from the game with 8.5 seconds to go.
Huggins was upset about the disadvantage from the charity stripe. Kansas had 35 free throws while WVU had just two.
Udoka Azubuike led the Jayhawks with 21 points. Devonte’ Graham had 15 and Lagerald Vick added 13.
Jevon Carter tallied 15 points and seven assists for the Mountaineers.
WVU remains winless at the Phogg Allen Fieldhouse, falling to 0-6 in the building.
The Mountaineers shot 44 percent from the field and 54 percent from beyond the arc.
Kansas shot 47 from the floor and 32 percent from long range.
WVU will head to Waco to battle Baylor on Tuesday.
