SAN DIEGO–After dropping a hard-fought game to Kansas in the Big 12 Championship, West Virginia must now regroup for Friday’s matchup against Murray State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
“We’ve got a job to do,” senior guard Daxter Miles Jr. said.
The Mountaineers dropped three straight conference championship games but the loss to the Jayhawks was a tough one to digest.
“We were a couple plays away from being champions,” freshman forward Teddy Allen said. “Obviously it sucks to lose but you got to take away what you can so we can build on the positive things we did going forward. “
While the sting of losing that game is there, WVU must find a way to move on and work towards its ultimate goal of winning a National Championship.
“Of course, if you’re a player you’re going to be upset that you didn’t walk out with a win,” Miles said. “But if you’re a player you’re going to get over it fast because we got a big task to try and accomplish.”
With everything on the line, the Mountaineers begin their quest against an unfamiliar opponent, Murray State. And it is a game that won’t be taken lightly.
“It’s the big dance,” Miles said. “There’s a lot of different teams. Guys come ready to play.”
