In a move that shouldn’t shock many people; given that he hasn’t been with the team recently, Junior Guard D’Angelo Hunter has decided to transfer from West Virginia University. Hunter was averaging around 6 minutes a game this season.
In a now deleted tweet, Hunter thanked “Mountaineer Nation” for the support. Hunter’s reasoning for transferring seems to be related to his playing time. Hunter’s father has been active on social media over the past week, tweeting the following:
Tweets like these have gone on for the month or March, making it more and more obvious that Hunter’s relationship with the coaching staff and possibly players has been severely strained.
This is a hard situation for all involved. Hunter wasn’t the biggest contributor off the bench for the Mountaineers, but as the NCAA tournament goes on, Jevon Carter and Daxter Miles Jr. may hit a slight wall due to the amount of minutes they have played over the past 4 years. A player like Hunter could have helped the Mountaineers, even if for only a few minutes.
The Mountaineers will need to continue without him when they take on Villanova in the Sweet 16 on Friday night.
