Lamonte McDougle Asks for Release from WVU

In a move that shocked the WVU coaching staff, sophomore Defensive Lineman Lamonte McDougle has decided to transfer from WVU.  McDougle has been held out of spring practice due to shoulder surgery he had in the offseason.

McDougle was one of the bright spots on the Mountaineer defense last season, making the ESPN freshman All-American team.

This leaves a huge void at a position where the Mountaineers already don’t have a lot of depth.  Reese Donahue is the only returning starter from last years D-line.  This will put more pressure on freshman Dante Stills to step in and contribute right away along with his brother sophomore Darius Stills.

This also will put pressure on Holgorsen to figure out a way to find players at the junior college level, that would want to play in Morgantown. It has been a rough few weeks when it comes to players leaving the program and it is up to Holgorsen to fill the void.
