WVU downs No. 7 Texas Tech in series opener

LUBBOCK–Jackson Wolf earned his first career win as West Virginia upset No. 7 Texas Tech, 1-0, on Thursday night at Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park.

Wolf (1-0) pitched four innings of scoreless baseball. The freshman surrendered just two hits while striking out three.

Shane Ennis earned his first save of the season.

Ivan Gonzalez, Darius Hill and Chase Illig all had one hit for the Mountaineers (10-12, 1-3 Big 12)

Davis Martin suffered the loss for the Red Raiders (21-6, 1-3). He pitched six innings, surrendering one run on just three hits.

In the top of sixth, Ivan Gonzalez doubled and scored on Darius Hill’s single up the middle, giving WVU a 1-0 advantage.

The Mountaineers have won three in a row against Texas Tech.

The two teams return to action on Friday at 7:30 p.m. (ET). The game is televised on Fox Sports 1 (FS1).
