Thursday marked the 2018 Pro Day at West Virginia, where Mountaineers showed off their skills in front of about 30 NFL scouts from across the league. Pro Day is the day for players to show up and show out if they were not present at the NFL Combine, and further show off if they were there, several weeks earlier. This is essentially their chance to make another impression on NFL scouts and punch their ticket to the big league.
Notable names who participated in Thursday’s skills show are Al-Rasheed Benton, Justin Crawford, Elijah Battle, Marvin Gross, Jr., Elijah Wellman, Kyle Bosch, Ka’Raun White and Kyzir White.
Pro Day allows the players to participate is multiple series of skills drills such as bench press. 40-yard dash, vertical lap, broad jump, pro shuttle, 60-yard shuttle and cone drills.
Several Mountaineers were able to shine throughout the day, with Elijah Battle taking the top spot in the 40-yard dash by clocking a 4.49 time. Mountaineer Alejandro Marenco III crushed the broad jump and the vertical leap with distances of 131 inches and 38.5 inches. Kyle Bosch lead the pro shuttle with a score of 4.95. Elijah Wellman showed off his bench press skills with 27 reps of 225 pounds Thursday. Justin Crawford was also able to shave off some time on his 40. Having ran a 4.63 at the Combine, Crawford showed the scouts his skills by running a 4.60 Thursday.
The NFL Draft is now weeks away and many players who performed Thursday will look to these scouts to take the next step, by scheduling individuals meetings and workouts with NFL teams if they haven’t done so already. This is an exciting time for Mountaineers and their fans and it will be just the beginning of hopefully long NFL careers for all those guys who suited up in the Old Gold and Blue.
