Thursday evening will be the start of what will become one the most important weekends for many football players across the country. The 2018 NFL Draft is almost here. For several Mountaineers, they will hope to hear their names called starting Thursday, then throughout the weekend prior to the free agency rounds.
Kyzir White, Ka’Raun White, Kyle Bosch, Al-Rasheed Benton and Justin Crawfod have all been mentioned as possibilities to get picked up during the draft weekend, or at least in the free agency period at the end of this week. Outside of these five players, there are many other Mountaineers who have participated in Pro Day, as well as other pre-Draft workouts, and look to find their place on an NFL team.
Going into Draft week, Kyzir White is the standout of Mountaineers most likely to get drafted this year. White has made quite the name for himself in his role as a safety the past two seasons with West Virginia, after his time at Lackawanna College in Pennsylvania. It’s been discussed that White could possibly make a move toward the West Coast, joining a growing bevy of Mountaineers with the Oakland Raiders.
Currently, White is considered to be West Virginia’s standout in the Draft this year. While many of players named, and not named, have created buzz for themselves; it is sadly unlikely that many other Mountaineers will hear their names called Thursday through Saturday. Playing at the professional level is the ultimate football dream for almost every young athlete. For a lucky few, this weekend will be the start of that dream.
