FORT WORTH, Texas–The West Virginia University baseball team dropped the second game of a three-game series, 10-4, to TCU on Saturday afternoon.
Tyler Doanes, Darius Hill and Kyle Gray each had two hits for the Mountaineers (26-22, 8-12 Big 12).
Kade Strowd (4-5) suffered the loss for WVU. He pitched just 1.1 innings, surrendering three runs on three hits while walking one.
The Mountaineers scored four runs on eight hits.
The Horned Frogs (28-19, 9-10) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Coby Boulware singled up the middle before stealing two bases. He scored on a groundout off the bat of Michael Landestoy.
With two outs in the second, Josh Watson singled through the left side, plating two and giving the TCU a 3-0 lead.
The Horned Frogs score two more runs in the third and fourth innings before WVU started to rally.
Ivan Gonzalez delivered a three run bomb to left field, cutting the Mountaineers’ deficit to 7-3.
In the sixth, Kyle Gray’s solo shot pulled WVU within one but TCU responded in the bottom half of the frame. Connor Wanhanen singled up the middle, allowing Johnny Rizer to score.
In the seventh, a solo home run from Conner Shepherd and a bases loaded hit batsman extended the Horned Frogs lead to 10-4.
The rubber match in the series is set for Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. (ET).
