MORGANTOWN, W.Va.–The West Virginia University baseball team fell to Baylor 6-2 on Saturday afternoon on Senior Day.
The Mountaineers (27-25, 9-15 Big 12) were held to two runs on seven hits and the Bears (32-29, 13) scores six runs on 11 hits.
Before the game WVU honored its two seniors BJ Myers and Shane Ennis.
Baylor jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the third on Richard Cunningham’s RBI single.
Alek Manoah relieved Myers in the fourth and ran into trouble. He issued a one-out walk to Shea Langellers and then gave up a double to Davion Downey. Cole Haring followed with a single to left center, scoring Langellers. With two outs, T.J. Raguse doubled down the right field line, giving the Bears a 4-0 lead.
In the bottom half, Ivan Gonzalez led off the inning with a walk. He scored on Braden Zarbnisky’s base hit to left field. Brandon White cut the Mountaineers deficit to 4-2 when he plated Zarbnisky with a single up the middle.
Baylor added two more runs in the ninth.
WVU’s next game comes next week in the Big 12 Tournament on Wednesday.
