MORGANTOWN, W.Va.–According to reports, West Virginia University forward Sagaba Konate plans to withdraw his name from the 2018 NBA Draft and will return for his junior season.
Obviously, the Mali native possesses the talent to play in the NBA but after receiving feedback from the NBA teams, Konate has decided he may be better suited for the 2019 draft.
Konate was invited to this year’s NBA combine, where he impressed many but it wasn’t enough to earn him a potential first round draft pick.
The 6-foot-8, 260-pound star measured in at under 6-foot-7 barefoot.
In two combine scrimmages, Konate made 11-of-21 shots, averaging 11.5 points, six rebounds and two blocks in 21 minutes.
As a sophomore, Konate averaged 10.8 points, 7.6 rebounds and 3.2 blocks per contest. His defense contributions got him named to the Big 12 All-Defensive Team.
The Mountaineers open the 2018-19 season on Nov.9 against Buffalo at the Coliseum.
