MORGANTOWN, W.Va.–West Virginia head basketball coach Bob Huggins met with members of the media on Wednesday afternoon to address the upcoming basketball season.
Currently, the Mountaineers are dealing with the injury bug. Junior Chase Harler has been nursing a back injury and is temporarily sidelined.
A hand issue has bothered Junior Beetle Bolden. Sagaba Konate tweaked his knee. Lamont West is coming along after hand surgery and is believed to be fine.
Sophomore Andrew Gordon seems to be bothered by a sore knee.
“Andrew seemingly every 10 minutes has to bend over and rub his knee,” Huggins said.
Brandon Knapper missed most of the summer after being diagnosed with a blood clot but is ready to go.
Huggins stated that Esa Ahmad is ready for his final season with WVU. He has spent more time in the gym than ever and is in the best shape of his life.
New strength and conditioning coach Shaun Brown has been focused on core work this season.
“That’s where everything starts,” Huggins said. “That’s where the explosion ultimately starts.”
Logan Routt has given up his basketball scholarship and will remain with the Mountaineers as a walk-on in order to give the team numbers. WVU will have 15 members this season on the basketball team.
Freshman Jordan McCabe has impressed the Mountaineer coaching staff.
“Jordan McCabe is unbelievable,” Huggins said. “He has taken and digested film as well as anybody that I have ever had.”
