Why West Virginia Will Win

The Mountaineers (0-1) dropped their season-opener in overtime to Buffalo last Friday night, where they struggled with the pressure, were outrebounded, turned the ball over numerous times and made bad passes. A youthful WVU team has a lot of learning ahead. Up next for the Mountaineers is Monmouth in Thursday’s first-round game in the Myrtle Beach Invitational. Lamont West scored 22 points in the opening loss. Beetle Bolden dropped a career-high 21 points before exiting the game due to an injury. Esa Ahmad and Sagaba Konate both had 15 points and seven rebounds. Deion Hammond (15.7 points) and Ray Salnave (10.7 points) pave the way for the Hawks. Monmouth (0-3) has averaged 14.7 turnovers per game this season. The Hawks opened the season with an 85-61 loss at home to Lehigh and an 87-74 loss at Colgate. Last time the two teams met was on Nov. 14, 2014, with WVU winning 64-54.

Score Prediction:

WVU 82, Monmouth 65
