Why West Virginia Will Win

The Mountaineers (1-1) are coming off their first win of the season in the opening round of the Myrtle Beach Invitational. Esa Ahmad (15.5 points, 5.0 rebounds) paved the way for WVU with 16 points. Sagaba Konate (14.5 points, 7.5 rebounds) had 14 points, eight boards and four blocks. The Mountaineers did a better job on the glass, out rebounding Monmouth 39-32. WVU also forced 18 turnovers. However, turnovers still plague the Mountaineers. Guard Beetle Bolden (15.0 points) was held to just nine points but defensively was a difference maker. Western Kentucky Hilltoppers defeated Valparaiso by a score of 83-71.  In the win the Hilltoppers converted on 50% of their field goals. Guard Taveion Hollingsworth (19.7 points, 6.7 rebounds) leads the way for WKU. Jared Savage (18.7 points), Desean Murray (14.5 point) and Charles Bassey (11.0 points 9.0 rebounds) are all capable of putting up big numbers.  Savage made five 3s on Thursday against Valparaiso. The Hilltoppers opened the season with a 73-55 loss at Washington. This will be the fourth meeting between the two teams. The last meeting was on March 13, 1987, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in Syracuse, N.Y. WKU came away with a 64-62 win.
