CONWAY, S.C.–The struggles continued for West Virginia as the Mountaineer fell to Western Kentucky by the score of 63-57 on Friday in the Myrtle Beach Invitational.

Charles Bassey and Taveion Hollingsworth had 13 points apiece for the Hilltoppers (3-1). Josh Anderson had 12 points and Jared Savage 11.

WVU (1-2) turned the ball over 22 times and fouled WKU 34 times.

Both teams left a lot to desire in the shooting department. The Mountaineers shot 33 percent from the field and made 6-of-25 from beyond the arc. The Hilltoppers shot 32 percent from the floor and 22 percent from 3-point range.

“We’ve got some other guys jacking them up that don’t have a shot to make them and that’s got to stop,” WVU head coach Bob Huggins said. “Our guys that we count on to make them need to make them. Our margin for error is not very great. We don’t really have (a press). We’ve tried. We don’t have the foot speed, we don’t have the athleticism. We’ve played two teams here that are more athletic than us.”

Esa Ahmad tallied 12 points. Beetle Bolden had 10.

The Mountaineers face St. Joseph’s on Sunday in the consolation game in the Myrtle Beach Invitational.

Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. and will be televised on ESPN2.

The game will be televised nationally on ESPN2.
