As WVUWire reported yesterday, Houston has parted ways with head coach Major Applewhite after finishing 8-5 this past season.
According to Brett McMurphy the two top candidates to replace Applewhite are WVU head coach Dana Holgorsen and USC’s Kliff Kingsbury.
Kingsbury recently took the offensive coordinator position at USC after being fired this past season from Texas Tech.
If Holgorsen is to be offered the position the announcement could come as early as Tuesday, January 1st.
According to reports, WVU has not been notified of any talks between Holgorsen and Houston. Holgorsen’s contract states that he is required to notify the University if he were to get into discussions with any other University.
Although Houston is not a Power 5 program there is no shortage of money at the University. If Holgorsen is to be offered the position expect him to be among the highest paid G5 coaches in the nation. The same would go for Kingsbury.
