Tidbits: WVU's Coaching Search Updates

WVUWire has just a few bullet points to relay this morning, albeit nothing earth shattering.

-Lyons has concluded all interviews for the open head coaching vacancy. Those interviews included Troy’s Neal Brown, Cincinnati’s Luke Fickell, and WVU’s Tony Gibson.

-All interviews were conducted away from Morgantown with the exception of Gibson.

-Sources have informed WVUWire that Gibson’s interview was unexpected in that it was very impressive. “Even though he is not the frontrunner they all left the interview impressed with how prepared Gibson was”.

-Troy’s defensive coordinator, Vic Koenning, is a possibility to join Brown if he comes to WVU. However, Koening would be considered the top choice to replace Brown at Troy.

-An announcement could come as early as today (Friday). However, we have also been told that the announcement may wait until after the National Championship game, which is this Monday night.

-WVU WR Coach Tyrone Carrier will join Holgorsen at Houston. It is also possible OL coach Joe Wickline and CB coach Doug Belk could go as well.

-The WVU Board of Governors called a meeting Thursday evening to discuss the current situation. This is usually a last step before a hire is announced.

-WVU DC Tony Gibson may very well stay on staff. However, it may not be as a defensive coordinator. Remember, Gibson still has one year left on his contract at WVU. If Gibson does not get the DC position under the new coach do not be surprised to see him stay only one more year.

-The NCAA Coaches Convention is January 9th, any openings on the new staff will more-than-likely be filled by the end of the convention.

Like I stated in my opening there isn’t much to report this morning. If there is an announcement today, rest assured, WVUWire will be among the first to break the news.
